Cosplay on TikTok as pandemic sparks new ways of engaging with community

The cosplay community has long revolved around fan conventions, where members could show off their most recent costuming feats.

However, when the pandemic caused their cancellation, many cosplayers sought an alternative outlet for their creative work and turned to TikTok.

Since then, TikTok’s unique algorithm has led cosplayers to collectively amass millions of views and inspired many others to become involved with the community.

People like Nina, who began cosplaying during the pandemic, and attended her first large convention last weekend when London’s ExCeL hosted MCM Comic Con.
