Kew Gardens celebrates 30th anniversary Orchid Festival with Chinese theme

Kew Gardens is celebrating the 30th anniversary edition of its Orchid Festival with this year’s theme centred around China.

The festival displays Chinese culture, with sculptures including the centrepiece Dragon formed from Lotus seed heads, Orchid plants and dried leaves interspersed with Chinese art inspired by the orchids.

The Orchid Festival is being held in the Princess of Wales Conservatory until 8th March.

Mythilli Ramanam, Visitor Programmes Producer, Royal Botanical Gardens Kew said: “China is so bio-diverse and we’ve got such a great link to China which has 1700 native species of orchid so it’s a really great way to bring those stories together.”

Kew Gardens has a self proclaimed mission to understand and protect plants with collaborators in China, The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kew work on seed banking and shared conservation efforts.
