WATCH: Sadler’s Wells East brings the dancefloor to life at The Music is Black festival

Sadler’s Wells East hosted the first weekend of The Music is Black festival, bringing the dancefloor to the community in a celebration of sound and culture.

Sunday’s event was a takeover by hip hop theatre power-house Breakin’ Convention and dance collective Odd Venture

The event featured performances from young MC’s, DJ sets, and exhibition dance battles followed by an open floor for all to dance and enjoy.

The eight month festival honours an ongoing V&A East exhibition ‘The Music is Black’ celebrating the evolution of Black British music and its influence of culture.

Breakin’ Conventions festival co-ordinator Aliyah Reid believes in the power of music and dance and hopes that people continue to attend events like these to see and support young talent, to have fun connecting with others and remind us that we have more in common than sets us apart.
