The BFI have put together a new interactive exhibition, The Red Shoes: Beyond the Mirror, to mark its new Southbank season.

Cinema Unbound: The Creative Worlds of Powell + Pressburger celebrates the works of the classical directing duo, highlighted by this unprecedented exhibition designed within the spaces of Southbank.

The exhibition recognises Powell and Pressburger’s 1948 critically acclaimed film The Red Shoes, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s 19th century fairytale, which tells the story of a young ballet dancer transfixed by a magical pair of red shoes.

Co-curator of the exhibition Claire Smith said: “It’s the first exhibition of its kind that we’ve done.

“We’ve been able to take over the spaces of Southbank to bring a little bit of the archive story into the space and celebrate cinema in a new and imaginative way.”
