Super-sub Adebayo Azeez scored a dramatic late equaliser as AFC Wimbledon secured a point in a 4-4 draw with Carlisle at Brunton Park.
Neil Ardley’s side lead the game twice opening the scoring in the fourth minute through Sean Rigg.
But Carlisle – without a win this season – equalised through Kyle Dempsey just six minutes later. Matt Tubbs restored the Dons lead only for Dempsey to level again just before the break.
And second half goals from Josh Gillies and Brad Potts put Carlisle in control but AFC Wimbledon finally woke from their slumber with 20 minutes remaining.
Tubbs scored from the penalty spot and former Charlton striker Azeez fired home in the 93rd minute.
“As a manager you look at the problems of why we are not winning games. It was a game at 2-1 that we should have gone on and won,” Ardley told afcwimbledon.co.uk.
“Sean Rigg had a chance to make it 3-1 and that would have made a big difference. That would have killed the game.
“But we are not doing a lot of the basics that League 2 demands and it’s something that we have to look at.
“We have players with huge experience and know-how and we have to look at what we’re not doing right and why we’re conceding silly goals.”
Meanwhile, arch-rivals MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon will again be face each other in a cup competition as the two rivals compete for a place in the third round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy next month.
In August the pair met at Stadium MK in the Capital One Cup first round with the hosts comfortably beating their League Two opposition 3-1.
