An accomplished trumpeter will host a one night only concert to celebrate his new album launch in Chelsea before moving to America.
Louis Dowdeswell, 32, a celebrated jazz trumpet player, is holding a live performance of his upcoming album Out Of Print, at Chelsea’s Cadogan Hall tonight (November 2), his last show in Britain for the foreseeable future.
This is the musician’s second album, all about reimagining 10 well-known classical pieces in a more modern style with the aid of 40 different performers.
Louis has been working on this project for six years with his close friend Callum Au who composed the arrangements for the music, creating something unique, combining classical and jazz.
Louis said: “We’ve done a completely crazy, different thing with them all. We’ve made them hyper, high-octane and intense, it’s reimagined and re-orchestrated.
”I don’t think it’s ever been done before, so that’s what I’m most excited about sharing with people.”
The album includes works like Camille Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre and Gustav Holst‘s Mars from The Planets.
The concert at Cadogan Hall launches the album and features 30 talented musicians including Louis’ Big Band and a full brass ensemble playing the full album live.
Louis has played for King Charles III, as lead trumpet on Michael Bublé’s Grammy award-winning track Higher and with the London Symphonic, London Philharmonic and BBC Concert Orchestras.
The trumpeter believes in the power of live music and the impact it can have in an online society where concerts are experienced through a phone.
He said: “What it does is it creates this environment where I feel like I’m playing to the camera, to Facebook or YouTube, rather than to this audience.
”If you’re going to come and see a live performance, I think it’s really important that you come and really enjoy it and witness it.”
Cadogan Hall is Louis’ most ambitious project yet but believes the album can’t be complete without a full live performance.
This is his last UK solo appearance before he moves to America to further his career and provide a new life for his family.
Louis said: “This is to celebrate and be grateful and thankful for all the people that supported me in the UK for the first 32 years of my life.
“I want an opportunity to thank them somewhere official, so I’m really grateful and very excited to be able to do that.”
There are plans to have a reception beforehand including drinks and a Q&A as well as an after party post show.
Out Of Print will be available on all major streaming platforms after the performance and CDs and vinyl are available to preorder now.
