Puck drop at High Road as the Streatham Redhawks take on the Romford Buccaneers

Streatham Redhawks on the hunt for silverware

Streatham Redhawks are determined to build on their strong last season to push for success and silverware.

The Redhawks have made a very strong start to their season, recently beating the Romford Buccaneers 4-1 at the High Road.

In their double header this weekend, they had a tough over time loss to the Chelmsford Chieftains but bounced back with a 6-3 win away to the Romford Buccaneers.

The club is part of the third tier of British ice hockey, competing in the National Ice Hockey League Division 1 South, and are aiming to win the division after finishing second last season.

They also won the Britton Playoffs last season, and will be hoping to use that positive momentum to drive them forwards this season.

Head coach and player Ben Paynter explained that recruitment has been a key focus for the team to make that next step.

They are hungry for the success they know is within reach.

Paynter said: “We go into every season with the expectation to win.

“We want to win every game, we want to compete every minute, we want to win every trophy that’s on the table to win.

“We’ve recruited really well in the summer. We’ve already got a great core that’s had a lot of success.

“We finished last season really strongly and retained a lot of that team and added some pieces that I felt we maybe lacked throughout the year.”

Established in 1932, the Redhawks are one of the oldest teams in the country, and have been a staple of the community ever since.

Paynter added: “There’s a lot of support. There’s a lot of great fans that have watched this club for a very long time. When you have a club of this history it comes with a great fanbase, a great support network around the club and it’s good to play for a club with such rich history.”

The passion of the supporters and players is evident throughout the whole club, with fans cheering and chanting, and the team putting their bodies on the line in every challenge.

The Redhawks have not lost a game since their first pre-season fixture against the Romford Raiders, and will be hoping this run of form continues long into the season.
