London Broncos boss backs team as ready for Super League after Championship triumph

London Broncos head coach Jason Demetriou believes his team are ready Super League after a 78-6 victory over Doncaster in the Betfred Championship Grand Final.

The win capped a triumphant season for the Broncos, who completed the domestic treble in rugby league’s second tier after previously securing the League Leaders’ Shield and the 1895 Cup.

Now comes the question of what’s next?

Promotion into Super League no longer happens via automatic promotion, and instead relies on club gradings from the Rugby Football League’s marketing partner, IMG.

The gradings to decide the make-up of the top flight in 2027 have yet to be revealed and it is not yet clear when the decision will be announced, putting Demetriou and his team in a difficult position.

“It’s odd,” Demetriou said. “We’ve ticked every box.

“For me, as a coach, I can only control what’s on the field.

“We’re in a great position to go up.

“We want to earn the right to be in the Super League. We’re ready to go.”

Wearing a t-shirt which boasted ‘Treble Winners’ in big red letters to Sunday’s post-match press conference, Demetriou was determined not to let the off-field issues take away from his side’s achievements.

He added: “For now, we just want to enjoy this moment.”

Leading Doncaster 38-0 at the break in the title decider at Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium, Demetriou’s half time talk was all about soaking up the moment and relishing the group’s strength and camaraderie.

He said: “[I told the players] We’ve just got 40 minutes to go out there and have some fun.

“No one knows what the future holds.”

Whatever their future entails, the history the club has made in the 2026 season is nothing short of remarkable.

They displayed utter dominance in the final, with speed and energy to their attack that outpaced their South Yorkshire opponents.

The Broncos have only lost one game in league action, while their women’s side – honoured at half time on Sunday – have been promoted to their Super League as well.

The club is expanding, and their victory is well deserved.

But whule question of what’s to come loomed large over this victory, former South Sydney Rabbitohs boss Demetriou was determined not to let this uncertainty cast a cloud over their sunny day.

He said: “What will be will be.”
