The Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative (WJTI) celebrated its 25th anniversary by welcoming children, families and coaches to its Community Tennis Centre at Raynes Park.
Since its creation in 2001, the WJTI has offered coaching to more than 300,000 pupils from state schools across the London boroughs of Wandsworth and Merton.
Speaking at the event, WJTI Head Coach Mark Codling said: “We have a programme at Raynes Park where we teach 750 children per week and 350 of them have come through the WJTI.”
Children are selected to join the WJTI programme following coaching lessons at school where they then receive free weekly coaching sessions until the age of 18.
