Minds United FC: The club where football is for all

In a sport that focuses so much on high-intensity action, fierce competition and athletic success, Minds United FC has paved the way for a different kind of success.

Since its founding in 2019 by Tarik Kaidi, the west London club has become far more than just a football team and has created an inclusive community for all, prioriting mental health and happiness.

What started as a small local club has developed into a strong community, where players of all abilities can enjoy the game in a safe environment.

The club has created different teams including a women’s team, two futsal teams and five mixed football teams.

Women’s football developer Aaliyah Farah has been part of the team since 2021 and said: “Some people are happier, some people come because they just want to be included, everyone has a different reason.”

The Minds United team understands that people who are struggling just need a space to feel seen, heard and supported.

Aaliyah said: “They feel like they can’t participate because they think it’s going to hinder how they are going to perform on that task.

“There are at least three staff members there in case something happens or you want to talk about something and want help.”

Participating in regular exercise can improve mood and boost mental wellbeing.

Aaliyah further stated: “If everyone in the community is happy with what we do, that means we’re doing something right.”
