London prepares for the Wimbledon finals amid tradition, tennis and a summer atmosphere

When the Wimbledon finals roll around, London changes gear.

The anticipation for one of the year’s most prestigious sporting events is felt not only on the courts of the All England Club, but throughout the capital, where the tournament becomes part of everyday life.

From the Wimbledon area right through to the city centre, shops, restaurants and bars celebrate the event with decorations, special initiatives and nods to British tradition.

Green, the tournament’s signature colour, appears in shop windows, displays and the little touches that mark the days leading up to the final, transforming London into a city that seems to live to the rhythm of tennis.

You can feel this atmosphere even while strolling around Covent Garden.

Among the streets bustling with tourists and Londoners, there’s no shortage of Wimbledon-themed surprises: sweets and pastries inspired by the tournament, even desserts shaped like tennis balls, green and white decorations, and little gifts that show just how much the event has become part of city life.

“It’s lovely because you can really feel that Wimbledon is in the air,” said Nina, a shopper in Covent Garden.

“London has been filled with greenery, decorations and little touches that evoke the tournament.

“Even those who aren’t tennis fans end up getting caught up in this special atmosphere: it feels as though the whole city is waiting for the final.”

The appeal of Wimbledon goes beyond mere sporting competition.

In pubs with screens showing the matches, in restaurants offering special menus, and in the squares where visitors from all over the world gather, the tournament becomes a moment of shared celebration.

The classic dish of strawberries and cream, Wimbledon’s gastronomic symbol, remains a must, but in recent years enthusiasm for the tournament has also taken the worlds of creativity and shopping by storm, with products and initiatives that transform the final into a true city-wide event.

For a few days, London is not just hosting a tennis match: it is celebrating a tradition steeped in elegance, sport and little rituals.

From the immaculate lawns of Centre Court to the themed decorations in the city centre, the whole capital seems to remind us that Wimbledon is not just a tournament, but an integral part of the London summer.
