LISTEN: How church music is changing among Gen Z musicians

This summer, typical organ recitals at popular churches like Brompton Oratory meet at line-up of more unusual events, such as karaoke sung over the organ – otherwise known as ‘Organoke’.

Recital line-ups are diversifying and being broadcast to wider audiences via free, online services like OrganRecitals.UK, and the viral social media trend #organtok has been racking up millions of views.

As organisations such as The Royal Society of Organists and The Society of Women Organists endeavor to get a wider range of people playing the instrument, churchgoing in the UK has dwindled.

Only 5% of British adults attend church weekly according the 2025 British Social Attitudes survey, suggesting the instrument could be going unheard.

Listen below to hear how young organists are considering the future of their instrument.
