The annual retro event returns to bring all things vintage to Church Street, from Go-Go cages to fancy dress to dance contests.
Here’s what you can expect this August.
Twickenham 60s day is a day for the people of Twickenham, by the people of Twickenham.
And with local musicians performing to celebrate Twickenham’s rich musical history, it was only natural to keep community at the centre of it.
Director Lauri Riviera said: “Everything is local – the artists, the musicians, the street performers.
“I was struck at how many independent businesses we had [and] I was struck by how generous they were.”
Businesses involved include The Eel Pie Club and Brewery Market.
Before the event became what it’s now known to be, it started as a collection of bands playing at The Barmy Arms pub with a vintage scooters showing up.
It’s safe to say a lot has changed over 16 years – but music is still the driving force behind the event.
This year will be the biggest one yet, with five local bands playing at venues in and around Church Street, including The Fox, Barmy Arms and The Eel Pie pub.
Lauri said they use music to bring an intergenerational element to the event and get people of all ages involved.
One of the three music stages, The Future of Music stage, gives new, up-and-coming bands an opportunity to play golden oldies to an audience.
Lauri praised one of the bands playing, The Fourty-Fours, and their ‘Beatles’-like harmonies’ and said how their performance alongisde The Carnaby Army are essential to help younger audiences explore music from across the decades.
And for littler ones, there will be Twickenmums interactive kids’ zones with heaps of storytelling, arts and crafts activities.
One of the three music stages is The Future of Music stage, hosting “young up and coming” bands allowing for a “crossover” between different generations of music.
The entire event is free to attend and will be held in venues around Church Street, the riverside and surrounding areas and the fun kicks off at 12:30pm.
