More than 100 girls and women gathered at Westminster for a panel of political experts – including Labour MP Natalie Fleet – and a night of networking.
Tickets sold out in 19 minutes for the Girls Who Talk Politics (GWTP) International Women’s Day (IWD) event held at the House of Parliament on 3rd March.
GWTP launched on Instagram in November 2020 and have since accumulated more than 70,000 followers drawn to their posts explaining current affairs, career advice, and – since December 2024 – their events.
Head of Content, Olivia Welsh, said: “I work in politics and sometimes even I can’t follow what the Treasury is saying.
“We love getting creative with our posts and we hope that they help politics feel more accessible for women, preparing them for that pub debate or the House of Commons.”
Other panelists at the event included BBC journalist Jonelle Awomoyi, Head of Policy at The Good Growth Foundation Jade Azim, and founder of Simple Politics Official Tatton Spiller.
Building on their events and social media community, GWTP – run by seven female volunteers – is also establishing itself as a brand and have partnerships with international companies, some of whom contributed to goodie bags that were handed out to each IWD event attendee.
