WATCH: The volunteers bringing Hounslow’s river and parks back to life

A local man has launched a mission to clean up his local community, one piece of litter at a time.

Mark Hardy, who works at the Thai Upon Thames restaurant in Twickenham, has been tackling litter across the Hounslow borough and beyond.

Along the way, volunteers from all walks of life have joined him — from the Mayoress of Hounslow, Amy Croft, and MP Ruth Cadbury, to restaurant staff and passers-by inspired to stop and get involved.

Together, they’ve collected tonnes of litter, transforming the look and environment of local parks and riversides across London.

But it’s not just the landscape getting a refresh. As Mark explains, getting outside and taking part offers a powerful boost to mental and physical wellbeing.
