The Ruils Community Choir is an important part of the charity which supports Disabled children and adults and people with long term health and mental health conditions to lead independent lives.
Singing, discussing music and song writing has brought its members a multitude of benefits.
Celia, a regular member, said: “You can come and sing and forget your problems.
“It makes me feel good.”
90-year-old Grenville, one of the choir’s founding members, said the group gives him purpose and belonging.
“It’s important for people to belong in a choir, it’s important for people to understand that they are important,” he said.
The choir’s founder and music therapist, Dr Margaret Lobo, hopes more doctors will begin referring patients to choirs like Ruils, recognising the health benefits of group music initiatives.
I went to their performance as part of Richmond’s celebration of its twinning agreements to find out more.
