Wimbledon man found guilty of rape after luring man to bogus job interview in Westminster hotel

A rapist from Wimbledon was found guilty of attacking a man he lured to the hotel he worked at with a bogus job interview.

Sebastian Szerer, of Alexander Road Wimbledon, was convicted of one count of rape yesterday at the Old Bailey.

Szerer was a senior employee at Rubens Hotel, Buckingham Palace Road in Westminster, when he raped a 25-year-old man who turned up for a job interview on April 15, 2012.

Investigating officer, Detective Inspector Lee Davison, of Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: “Szerer abused his position as Head House Keeper.

“He purposely lured the victim to the hotel on the pretext of a job interview that didn’t exist. He then raped him. Thankfully he has been found guilty and I praise the victim today for his decision to report this rape to the police.”

Szerer took the young man on a tour of the hotel before locking him in the Queen’s Suite of the hotel to sexually assault him.

The victim didn’t tell anyone about the rape until Szerer contacted him a year later on a social networking site.

The message, that said ‘hello stranger’, prompted the man to contact Victim Support and they encouraged him to contact the police.

D.I. Davison said: “The Metropolitan Police’s Sexual Offences Exploitation & Child Abuse Command will pursue all such offenders to bring them to justice and I would encourage anyone who has suffered at the hand of another to report the matter in the knowledge that they will be believed and supported.”

Szerer will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Thursday July 30.
