Carshalton Athletic drop to seventh in Ryman South after ‘bad day at the office’ against Cray Wanderers

Carshalton Athletic player manager Peter Adeniyi is missing home comforts as his side endured a ‘bad day at the office’ on Saturday.

The Robins were at Hayes Lane for the second of three away games against Cray Wanderers this month and left off the back of a 4-1 defeat.

That was Carshalton’s fifth straight away game ahead of a sixth at Molesey this Tuesday and this most recent defeat sees the club down to seventh in the Ryman South.

“Saturday was very disappointing and we were way below the standards we’ve set so far this season,” said Adeniyi.

“They adjusted after the last one (a 3-3 draw in the FA Trophy earlier this month) and they didn’t allow us to control the match like we would’ve liked.

“But even results like this will go towards helping to develop this young squad. I’ve told them to go away, think about how they can improve from this and be ready to bounce back on Tuesday.”

A goal either side of half-time gave Carshalton a mountain to climb in the second-half at Cray and meant Mickel Miller’s 10th goal of the season on the hour was mere consolation for the travelling Robins fans.

“We had four attacking players unavailable and, while they both worked hard against Cray, that does increase the pressure on the likes of Mickel and Ricky Korboa,” added Adeniyi.

“That said, I have no concerns about my squad. We hope to have Josh Phillips and Sean O’Toole back for Tuesday, it was just unfortunate we had so many missing on Saturday.”

Carshalton’s next home game is against Ramsgate this coming weekend and Adeniyi is looking forward to stepping out at Colston Avenue for the first time since they spanked Godalming Town 10-0 last month.

“It’s been a tough run of matches but the lads have coped so well up until Saturday,” he added.

“So many away trips can be mentally challenging and Mike (Gilham) and I have already begun discussing ideas as to how to get them in the right frame of mind for Molesey.”

Molesey vs Carshalton Athletic kicks-off at 7.45pm on Tuesday, October 18.
