Grease-mania is set to descend on the New Wimbledon Theatre when the musical’s UK tour rolls in from Monday 15th-Saturday 20th October.

Strictly star and astrologer Russell Grant will play Teen Angel, fresh from his stint as ‘The Wizard’ in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘The Wizard of Oz’ at the London Palladium.

Danny Bayne, winner of ITV’s ‘Grease is the Word’, will play ‘Danny’ and Carina Gillespie will take the role of ‘Sandy’, having previously appeared in ‘Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story’.

Both leads appeared in Grease at the West End’s Piccadilly Theatre before it closed last year after a successful four year run.

Originally written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, the new tour premiered in May at Edinburgh Playhouse.

Grease was voted ‘No 1 Greatest Musical’ in a Channel 4 poll after the 1978 film confirmed it a cult hit.

The story’s mix of charming 1950’s pop culture, slick hair dos and young love in the setting of Rydell High makes it the original high-school musical.

Its unforgettable soundtrack is also partly responsible for its success. Tracks ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Greased Lightning’ and ‘You’re The One That I Want’ are sure to encourage a sing-a-long!
