Pixar-inspired houseboat photobombs Mayor of London Boris Johnson before docking on Thames in Putney

A floating house inspired by tear-jerker Pixar movie UP docked in Putney today where a competition winner will spend the night with three friends.

To celebrate the legalisation of Airbnb in London, the company is giving Annabelle Knowles-Obiri and her friends a tour of Putney followed by a massage, a Michelin-starred meal and a night on board.

Named Number 1, The Thames, the houseboat, which photobombed Boris Johnson during Mayor’s Question Time, was designed by twin brothers Steve and Nick Tidball and has two bedrooms, a bathroom, living room and its own garden complete with dog kennel and wisteria.

Airbnb spokesperson Alison Wood told SW Londoner: “The team was particularly influenced by the picturesque homes of Primrose Hill and Hampstead, as well as the magical elements of Pixar’s approach to design, in particular the animated film UP.”

Ms Wood said that thanks to an updated law that was changed on May 18, Londoners are now able to legally let their homes for up to three months a year on sites like Airbnb.

“We’ve created the ultimate listing on the River Thames to celebrate new rules that mean that Londoners – like the rest of the UK – can earn extra cash through sites like ours.”

The floating house is not Airbnb’s only houseboat – as well as the standard spare room the site has listings for more than one million properties including houseboats, tree houses, and even igloos.
