Sadiq Khan, Tooting MP and Shadow Lord Chancellor for Labour, was on hand to officially open Wandsworth Oasis’s latest charity shop in Earlsfield, last night.

An opening party was held to mark the occasion at the HIV charity’s sixth shop from 5-11pm, with directors, employees, volunteers and even some early bird shoppers in attendance.

The Rt Hon Sadiq Khan cut the ribbon and made a short speech citing the progress made on the public’s perception of HIV and commending the charity’s contribution to the cause.

“This is now a huge source of pride for me,” he said.

He went on to stress the importance of charity shops to the community as a source of affordable shopping, as well as the charity work they do.

Wandsworth Oasis has been raising money for local people with HIV for the last 25 years.

Five in every thousand people have HIV in Wandsworth, which is five times larger than the UK average.
