Kingston residents warned to be extra vigilant after spate of daytime burglaries

Summary:

A gang targeted a number of houses in a 24 hour period

By Jacob Metcalf

Residents are on high alert after 12 burglaries took place in the space of two days in New Malden, Chessington and Tolworth.

Kingston police are appealing for help as they attempt to track down the gang which targeted houses in the area over a 48 hour period last week.

In each case, the burglaries happened during the day and the burglars gained entrance through the back door.

They targeted jewellery and electrical goods and Kingston police have stepped up security in the area adding additional uniform and plain clothes patrol.

The police have advised residents to beware of any suspicious activity such as people knocking on doors during the day and urge people to report any such behaviour to 999 rather than the non-emergency 101 number.

Police are also urging residents in the area to secure all doors and windows and keep valuables out of sight before leaving their home.

Anyone with information regarding the burglaries should contact Kingston CID on 020 8721 5880 or call crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.
