Two men found guilty of murdering a young man in a Kingston nightclub were jailed for life yesterday.

Brandon Francis, of Camberwell and Levan Greenfield of Peckham were found guilty of murdering 20-year-old Jamie Sanderson as he left Oceana nightclub last October.

The Old Bailey heard that Jamie was leaving the busy nightclub after 03:00 on Thursday October 25, when he became involved in a minor dispute with four men.

CCTV footage at the nightclub shows that a fight ensued, in which Jamie was fatally stabbed in the chest. A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

Detective Inspector Mark Lawson of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command said he hoped the verdicts would bring Jamie’s family some comfort.

“Once again the use of a knife smuggled into the Oceana Nightclub has had devastating consequences,” he said.

“This was a cowardly and senseless attack by these men who were living violent lives to the extent that they believed that they could get away with killing a man as revenge for what started out as a petty argument as all parties were leaving the club.”

Detective Inspector Lawson also thanked the bravery of the witnesses who came forward to give evidence.

“I would also like to praise Jamie’s mother and sister for their courage and dignity throughout this lengthy trial,” he said.

“None of the defendants have shown any remorse during the trial and have shown a complete disregard for the victim and the impact it has had on the family.”

Two other men, Benjamin Onwuma of Walworth and Ashley Milne of Peckham, were acquitted of the murder.
