Inspirational amputee to run Fulham charity 10k after tragic loss of husband and daughter

A mother who became an amputee in a tragic accident will take part in a 10k run this weekend in Fulham along with thousands of runners, including our very own South West Londoner staff.

Victoria Milligan will be running in Vitality’s WestRun, her first event since losing her left leg in a boating accident in May 2013 which sadly cost the lives of her husband Nick and daughter Emily.

Yet Victoria has remained determined to draw positives from her unfathomable loss.

She said: “After physically adapting to losing my leg, I am now able to wear a running blade which has enabled me to get back into health and fitness.

“I have never run 10k before but I am determined to cross the finish line regardless of whether I run, jog or walk, all in aid of Child Bereavement UK.

“If I can do it, really, anyone can!”

The new course starts on the New Kings Road and finishes on Eel Brook Common, taking a picturesque route around the streets of Fulham on traffic-free roads.

South West Londoner staff Helen, Holly, Angela, Jess, Graham, Julie and James will be lacing up their trainers to raise money for charity.

On the common spectators can gather with friends and family to cheer on the runners and enjoy the great view.

Jamie Warren, head of marketing and commercial at race organisers GO2, said: “We have thousands of runners that need your support and we are encouraging everyone to come out for the day, take to their doorsteps and the streets of west London to cheer as spectators play a big role in creating the race day atmosphere.

“From elite runners right through to all those fantastic fundraisers who have taken on the challenge to do something amazing for a good cause, everyone feeds off the support of the spectators.

“It really makes a massive difference to everyone taking part!”

Live music will come in the shape of the West End Musical Choir and brass band Putney and Wandsworth Brass Band, while Sharky & George will put on family-friendly entertainment.

There will also be special offers available to runners from pubs, restaurants and shops in the surrounding area.
