A new online local volunteering service has launched today in Richmond making it easier for residents and businesses to get involved in the local community.

Volunteering Richmond is a localized service run by Groundwork London in partnership with Richmond Council.

By simply filling in an online form locals can register their skills and look up volunteering opportunities.

The new venture makes it easier for organizers to find the right candidate and volunteers to access the information they need.

“I am very excited to be launching Volunteering Richmond,” said Cllr Pamela Fleming, Richmond Council’s Strategic Cabinet Member for Communities, Business and Culture.

“We have a very vocal and vibrant voluntary sector and I look forward to seeing organizations working together.”

Volunteer Richmond has come about after the council held the all in one consultation and the feedback they received suggested that residents wanted to get more involved in the community.

Residents said they wanted to work together to make the borough a better place.

Locals can put themselves forward to volunteer for a range of community services including: nature conservation, working with school and local care services.

As well registering online Richmond residents also have the option of meeting the Volunteer Richmond team at one of their mobile drop in sessions.

These will be held throughout the borough, in libraries, community centres, colleges and aim to promote getting involved and the benefits for individuals and communities

These sessions provide tailored advice to help volunteers find the best role for them.

Carla Diego-Franceskides, Senior Community Projects Officer, Groundwork London said: “Groundwork is really excited to launch the Volunteering Richmond service, especially during Volunteers’ Week.”

Volunteering Richmond aims to reach new potential volunteers by going right into the heart of local communities.
