‘We fight to win!’ Mitcham & Morden Labour candidate confident of party’s chance ahead of tonight’s result

Mitcham and Morden Labour candidate Siobhain McDonagh cast her vote at St Joseph’s Church in Colliers Wood this morning.

Ms McDonagh is seeking re-election as MP for the area, a seat she has held since 1997.

She is predicted to maintain a majority after winning 56% of the votes back in 2010.

She said: “I’d be a fool to predict what will happen! Locally we are going to focus on residents.

“The battlegrounds are our marginal seats such as Sarah Jones in Croydon Central.”

She didn’t let slip any hints about possible deals between Labour and other parties to get a working majority.

Ms Mc Donagh said: “I have no idea about that – I say we fight to win.

She thanked Mitcham and Morden voters for their support since 1997, she said: “I pledge to keep fighting for their interests.”
