New London Broncos star Michael Witt is relishing life in the capital and a new beginning with London’s only Super League outfit.

Stand-off Witt bagged a try as well as booting four goals as the Broncos endured a frustrating start to the 2012 campaign, slipping to a tough-luck 34-24 loss to St Helens at The Stoop.

And with big-hitters Warrington Wolves up next on the road this Sunday, the Queensland-born star insists the men from the capital should be looking forward to the challenge.

Witt said: “It’s a baptism of fire, but it’s also exciting. Right from the word go we’re going to find out where we stand and how we measure up.”

There’s a good mood within the club with chairman, David Hughes, spending up to the salary cap for the first time in years.

Witt added: “It’s a very important season for us, every team is judged on the games they win, so we hope we can get as many as possible.”

After six unsuccessful years as the Harlequins, Witt is positive about the new era.

He said: “Last year is finished now. It’s a total new brand, a new club, and a lot of new faces, so we start from zero.”

With nine new signings through the door the Australian is excited about the club’s future.

“There’s a lot of new faces and a good feeling around the place. I think you have to have a little patience, it will take a little time to gel but hopefully it won’t take too long,” he added.

“Every team wants to make the finals, if you’re not aiming for that, you probably shouldn’t be playing.”

Witt had a difficult time last season with the Crusaders as the Welsh club went into administration and failed to pay their players.

But the 28-year-old reckons that is all behind him now.

Witt said: “We went through a few up and down times but I’m glad it’s all sorted now and it’s worked out for the best.”
