Uwe Rosler insisted he will not blame Marcello Trotta after Doncaster Rovers sealed the league title and a place in the Championship next season with an injury-time winner.

Brentford had promotion in sight when Toumani Diagouraga was brought down in the box in the 94th minute, only for Trotta to hit the bar and Rovers’ James Coppinger scored on the counter.

Rosler was disappointed his orders were bypassed when Trotta stepped up ahead of Kevin O’Connor – the designated penalty taker.

“The whole group had to respond because the whole group knew who I selected to take the penalty – which was O’Connor,” said Rosler.

“As a whole group we have to make sure that message will be followed.

“Trotta was not my first choice to take the penalty, but I’m not going to hang any individual out to dry. I’m not going to say anything more other than we will deal with this internally.”

Rosler, who will now lead his side into a two-legged semi-final against Swindon Town in the play-offs, could not describe the feeling in the dressing room.
“It is very difficult to speak now about it,” said the Bees boss.

“We should go home and get it out of the system and from tomorrow we start again and then we will be OK. But at the moment it’s very difficult under the circumstances after we didn’t go up.

“We should have played more. We were nervous and some players didn’t want the ball. We should have shown more bravery as a team to get the ball down.

“The first 20 minutes it’s ok. After that I wish we played a more passing game because that is the only way you beat teams like Doncaster.”
