‘Hideous individuals’: London Mayor and politicians condemn Parsons Green tube terror attack
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has condemned the terror related explosion at Parsons Green tube station this morning.
Mr Khan said “Our city utterly condemns the hideous individuals who attempt to use terror to harm us and destroy our way of life.
“As London has proven again and again, we will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism.”
Prime Minister Theresa May has called a COBRA meeting at Downing Street at 1pm today, which Mr Khan is due to attend.
Mrs May said: “My thoughts are with those injured at Parsons Green and emergency services who are responding bravely to this terrorist incident.”
Greg Hands, Fulham and Chelsea MP, said: “I am extremely concerned. I am following matters extremely closely.
“I’ve known people who were on the train who I’m trying to get first-hand information from.
“Parsons Green at 8.20am or thereabouts would have been absolutely packed. It would have been heaving with people on the platform as well.
“I am extremely concerned and learning that it is a terrorist, I’m just extremely sad that this has happened in Fulham today.”
Liberal Democrats leader Sir Vince Cable said: “Concerned by reports of explosion on the tube.
“Thoughts go out to all those affected by the incident in Parsons Green.”
Stephen Hammond, MP for Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Morden and Motspur Park, said: “Potentially this could have been hugely more serious and were very pleased that it failed but disgusted that somebody has made an attack on the London Underground.”
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said: “Thoughts with those injured in Parsons Green terrorist incident, and thanks to police, ambulance staff and firefighters who are responding.”
Home secretary Amber Rudd said: “Grateful for the swift response from emergency services at Parsons Green, my thoughts are with the victims of this terrorist incident.”
Green Party London Assembly member Sian Berry said: “Thoughts with everyone caught up in this terrifying incident today.
“Look after each other London, and take care.”
Justine Greening, MP for Putney, Roehampton and Southfields and secretary of state for education, said: “My thoughts are with those injured in the Parsons Green explosion, and with the emergency services responding to this cowardly attack.”
Before the incident was confirmed as terror related, Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson advised: “My information is limited and it’s important not to speculate.
“Everybody should keep calm and go about their lives in a normal way, as normal as they possibly can.
“I understand the British Transport Police and TFL are on it and they will be updating their website as and when we have more information.”
