General Election 2019: Meet the Putney candidates

Justine Greening, MP for Putney since 2005, is not running for re-election in December’s general election. 

She won 44.1% of the vote in 2017, with former Labour candidate Neeraj Patil gaining a close 40.8% of votes.

72.2% of Putney voted Remain in the 2016 EU referendum.

Fleur Anderson (Labour)

Environmental and poverty campaigner Fleur Anderson has lived in Wandsworth for 25 years and has been a Wandsworth Labour councillor since 2014. 

She voted Remain and supports a People’s Vote.

Ms Anderson co-founded Wandsworth Welcomes Refugees and campaigned against cuts to the Autism Advisory Service. 

She currently works as head of community services at the Katherine Low Settlement Community Centre in Battersea, running youth services and projects for elderly people.

Teixeira Hambro (Brexit Party)

Businesswoman and homemaker Teixeira Hambro has lived in London since 1975.

She said: “I welcome the factJustine Greening has announced she will not be standing to represent the people of Putney again. 

“She has worked to subvert the will of the British people by blocking a clean-break Brexit.”

Fergal McEntee (Green Party)

Irish Fergal McEntee moved to Wandsworth in 2015.

He is the technical director of London-based renewable energy company Funky Renewables and also an active member of climate crisis activist group Extinction Rebellion.

With a master’s degree in Renewable Energy, he wants to push for switching to renewable energy to help the climate crisis and has undertaken work on multiple EU sustainability projects.

In his spare time, Fergal is a keen sportsman, photographer and owner of tropical fish.

Will Sweet (Conservative)

Conservative candidate Will Sweet is currently a Cabinet member for Education and Children’s Services at Wandsworth Borough Council.

As a civil servant, he has spent the last six years working on policy for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Schools, transport, the environment and supporting the high street are top of Mr Sweet’s list of priorities.

Sue Wixley (Liberal Democrats)

South African native Sue Wixley has lived in Southfields since 2009.

She co-founded the South African Campaign to Ban Landmines which played a key role in the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, the winner of the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize.

Sue was motivated to join the Liberal Democrats as she is strongly opposed to Brexit.

Some of her key manifesto points are to fight for Putney residents to have a say on the final Brexit deal, tackle the global climate crisis and prevent the Heathrow expansion.
