Bradford breaks his drought as five-star Carshalton continue promotion push

Carshalton Athletic forward Tommy Bradford was back among the goals last Saturday as his side put in a five-star performance.

The diminutive playmaker converted two headers during the 5-0 defeat of Molesey, his first goals since mid-January, and the victory was the third-placed Robins’ ninth in 11 games.

That kind of comprehensive result was needed however as Carshalton’s goal difference, which could play a significant factor come the end of the season, is currently the worst within a competitive top six in the Bostik South.

“We were happy with the result but we could’ve ended up scoring eight or nine, we took our foot off the pedal last 20 minutes,” said Bradford who now has 10 goals for the season.

“We spoke after the game about being ruthless across 90 minutes as goal difference could play a factor. It’s so tight at the top at the moment.”

It only took Carshalton 16 minutes to break the deadlock on Saturday as the in-form Omar Koroma poked home his third goal in two games.

Christie Pattisson’s 20 yard drive and Bradford’s first then gave the Robins a healthy half-time advantage.

Bradford then added the fourth on the hour before his cross was turned into his own net by Ato Okai a minute later.

“I wanted to get a hat-trick but I was taken off shortly after the fifth!” smiled Bradford.

“But the quality of all our goals was high and we need to keep that standard up moving forwards.”

And, although Bradford’s 10 goals is a far cry from the 34 he registered last season, his converted cross by Okai was the 23-year old’s 18th assist this season.

“I’d like to be scoring more of course, but I’d rather score 10 and we get promoted than score 34 and finish seventh like last season,” he reflected.

“But the most important thing is we keep winning and I’m more than happy to be contributing to that.”
