People suffering from mental health issues will have access to a ‘well-being shop’ run Tooting’s St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust after the hospital secured a £2.2m contract.

Up to 75% of people who are eligible for mental and social health services do not use them, the new ‘shop’ aims to reach out to these people

The Trust has won the multi-million pound contract from Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group to run mental health services for the next three years.

Working alongside mental health charity, Imagine, the Trust will create a shop front premises to give residents a new access point for treatments and support.

Chief executive of the Trust, David Bradley said: “This important contract will make sure that Sutton residents are able to access our high quality mental health services in the most streamlined way.”

The shop, which will be based in Sutton, opens July 1 and will help to direct users to the best support choice.

Dr Chris Keers, local GP and clinical lead for mental health at Sutton CCG, said: “We are really excited that this new innovative primary care model for mental health in Sutton is becoming a reality.”

Navroop Kullar, assistant director at Imagine, hopes to engage with people not yet accessing the services saying that they would be increasing awareness and developing bespoke services for diverse communities.
