Wimbledon Cricket Club secured the league and cup double in front of the Sky Sports cameras at Edgbaston last night.

Their seven wickets victory over Merseyside-based Northern in the ECB National Club T20 final followed their Surrey Championship triumph two weeks ago.

Captain Neil Turk produced a man-of-the-match performance in taking 2-8 from four overs before hitting 30 runs to help his team reach a modest target of 90.

He said: “The man-of-the-match award was really pleasing individually. I would have liked to cap the game off and finish it ‘not out’.

“But I took a bit of a calculated risk thinking to go after the one bowler and then we could just win the game early and there would be no panic.

“I’m just very pleased to perform well individually and more importantly to play my part of the collective unit that is obviously Wimbledon team.”

Darren Hooey’s and Will Leith’s strong bowling form had led to six Northern wickets falling for just 19 runs. With Graham Grace hitting 32 not out and Turk’s consistent batting, Wimbledon won the trophy with 22 balls to spare.

Turk said: “The bowlers won the game and the batsmen finished the job. It’s been the perfect season, to win the Surrey Championship with weeks to spare is fantastic and to win the national cup – you can’t get any better than that. We have been the strongest side and played the best cricket.”

On Sky’s coverage Turk added: “It was obviously excellent – it’s something we don’t experience as a club side. It made it more enjoyable and felt more professional. It’s nice to see yourself do well and your team do well on TV. It’s why people play sport and aspire to the highest level.”
