Budding Romeos wishing to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the most romantic way possible are invited by the Museum of Richmond to join a free morning of poetry inspired by Saint Valentine.
Those who fancy themselves as a modern day William Shakespeare are encouraged to bring their own poem to the event taking place on February 9 10am-12pm.
If you are concerned your poetic skills are limited to mimicking nursery rhymes, then Tuesday’s event is an ideal opportunity for you to embrace the fervent words of some of history’s most prominent verse-makers.
Morag Calderbank, of the Museum of Richmond, has encouraged poetic enthusiasts to come and join their Valentine’s Day poetry group, she said: “People who just like poetry; poets published and unpublished, our group is for all.
“We are celebrating Valentine’s Day and commemorating 400 years since the death of Shakespeare so we hope people will bring along some sonnets.”
Romantic poetry is embedded into the history of this country with the words of William Wordsworth, John Keats and Robert Browning.
