Two male travellers have been summoned to court after an investigation into the rubbish left on Tooting Common last month.

The rubbish had been left at the same time as illegal occupancy on the common by a group of travellers.

The same community of travellers have also been connected with other fly tipping incidents in the Bedford Wood area.

The two men are expected to be charged with breaking environmental protection laws.

This prosecution comes just days after Wandsworth Council announced they have organised a summit to discuss the traveller invasions in illegal spaces around South West London.

They will discuss ways in which they can deter the travellers as well as things that the cross-border co-operation can improve to ensure that local parks and other open spaces do not become damaged costing local tax payers.

Anyone with information about cowboy operators dumping rubbish should contact (020) 8871 6396 where they can report any fly tipping in the area confidentially.
