Thousands of homes left without water following extreme weather conditions

Tooting MP Dr Rosena Allin-Khan has been hailed ‘the woman of the waterless people’ following her efforts to supply residents in south west London with bottled water.

Burst pipes affected thousands of homes in the area, resulting in the loss of running water from Sunday morning until Monday lunchtime.

Dr Allin-Khan has been working with Thames Water to set up bottle stations in Balham, Streatham and Tooting as London residents continue to feel the impact of recent adverse weather even after the snow has melted.

The water shortages have caused schools in Streatham and Balham to shut, although Thames Water has since completed repairs and restored running water to the areas affected.

On Twitter, Thames Water said: “We’ve now completed our work to repair a large leaking water pipe, which has been causing low pressure or no water in SW12, SW16, SW17, and SW18.

“Pressure is now building and we expect water to return over the next few hours.”

Thames Water are currently operating two bottle stations in the area. The first can be found at Homebase, 100 Woodgate Drive, Streatham Vale, SW16 5YP, and the second at Sainsburys car park on Balham High Road, SW12 9AU.
