1. Her first name is not Meghan

We may all know her by the name of Meghan Markle, but her first name is Rachel, which coincidentally is also the name of the character she plays in the TV series she is well-known for, Suits.

2. She went to Northwestern University

The multi-talented actress went to Northwestern University in Illinois and graduated with a double degree in international relations and theatre studies.

3. She spoke against sexism when she was just 11 years old

For a social sciences assignment in elementary school, Meghan Markle and her classmates watched some TV commercials to analyse their messages. Meghan said: “I don’t think is right for kids to grow up thinking these things, that just mom does everything.”
A commercial for Ivory Dishwashing Liquid caught her attention because it used the word women saying that they were ‘fighting greasy pots and pans’. So Meghan wrote a letter to Procter & Gamble and the company agreed with her and changed the commercial replacing the word ‘women’ with ‘people’.

4. She and Harry are somehow related

A study carried out by the Daily Mail found that Meghan and Harry are distant cousins. They in fact share a 15th century ancestor related to the Queen Mother, the High Sheriff of County Durham, Ralph Bowes. The ancestor comes from Meghan’s father side, Thomas Markle.

5. She went to an all-girls Catholic school

Meghan is Catholic and the fact that she is marrying a royal of Protestant faith is quite scandalous, not to mention that it was forbid before the 2013 Succession to the Crown Act, if a royal did not want to be disqualified from the line of succession.

6. She has been a blogger during her free time

In 2014 Meghan started a blog dedicated to lifestyle called The Tig, which she closed after three years of activity, in 2017. She posted about fashion, food and travel – topics she is very passionate about. And the blog itself was named after one of her favourite wines: the Tiganello, an Italian red wine.

7. She will be the first mixed race British royal

… and it represents a big change for royalty. Her father, Thomas Markle, is white and her mother, Dora Ragland, is African-American.

8. They met through a mutual friend

Fashion designer and Meghan’s friend Misha Nonoo played cupid for the couple as she thought they would have been good together.

9. Harry proposed to her over a roast dinner

What are the chances that a royal proposes to his bride-to-be over a roast Sunday dinner? They were in their cottage and Harry was trying to cook a roast chicken when he proposed to an overly-excited Meghan, as revealed during their first public interview following the engagement in November 2017.

10. It is not the first time that Meghan has walked down the aisle

Meghan married Trevor Engleson in 2011, a manager for screenwriters, directors and actors, and a film producer famous for the film ‘Remember Me’ starring Robert Pattinson. They married in Jamaica in 2011 after dating for about six years. They separated two years after the wedding and divorced in 2013.

11. She is a massive yoga fan

Yoga constitutes a big part of Meghan’s beauty routine, along with Pilates and running. She said: “There are so many benefits that come with the practice of yoga: increased flexibility and muscle strength, greater happiness, increased mental focus, a greater ability to relax, decreased anxiety and better sleep.” Also, her mom Dora is a yoga instructor and she started practising it when she was only seven years old.

12. When it comes to beauty she has one favourite brand

Meghan is a big fan of Charlotte Tilbury’s beauty and skincare items, and one of the items she will not leave her house without is the Matte Revolution lipstick in Very Victoria.

13. She worked for some time in Buenos Aires

She worked for the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires and is now an active UN Women’s advocate for political participation and leadership.

14. Her father is famous in the film industry

Her father is a former television lighting director who introduced Meghan to the world of TV when she was only a child. He is famous for two TV shows in particular, ‘Married with Children’ and ‘General Hospital’.

15. She has a half-brother and a half-sister

Both of them, respectively Samantha Markle and Thomas-Junior Markle, are her siblings on her father’s side.
