Original gifts and tasty treats – Wimbledon residents enjoy May’s market on The Piazza

The sun shone on Wimbledon this weekend as traders set up their stalls for May’s Market on The Piazza.

The Piazza, on The Broadway outside Morrisons, was jam-packed as shoppers browsed through the array of stalls selling a variety of original items.

New and familiar local traders offered a global range of delicious street food and striking clothing along with unique accessories, homeware and endless gifts.

Wimbledon resident Heather Bennett said: “There’s all kinds of variety, perhaps things you wouldn’t find in the shops. There are plenty of eye-catching items which really grab your attention and almost everything is at an affordable price.

“All the traders are friendly but not pushy. If there’s anything you are interested in the people are only too happy to talk to you about the items and explain how they came to be made.

“A lot of the traders have websites as well, so if they don’t have exactly what you are after on the day, you may be able to find it there.

“The market is very clean, very family orientated, and it caters for everybody.

“The market is in a great location, making it very easy to combine the market with your afternoon in Wimbledon.”

Market-goers enjoyed tasty treats from around the world, from sumptuous steaks, burgers and wraps to a range of tasty deserts including Brazilian cakes handmade Belgian chocolates.

Local traders sold everything from 3D pop up cards and personalised coasters to African inspired clothing and hand-crafted jewellery.

Another visitor, 43-year-old Carole Kelly, said: “I really enjoy the market, especially when the sun is shining.

“I love looking through the hand-crafted accessories and gifts you wouldn’t find elsewhere.

“The food stalls are laid out beautifully. The food looks and smells lovely – I might have to try some!”

The Market on The Piazza returns on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June.
