Attention south west London comedy fans: a one-night-only Balham event promises ‘guaranteed laughs with the leading ladies of comedy’ in its celebration of International Women’s Day.
An all-female stand-up comedy special in aid of the international girls education charity, the Malala Fund, will be taking place at the Bedford, Balham on Friday 8 March and will see Mary Bourke, Tania Edwards, Joanne McNally and Jessica Fostekew performing.
The Bedford, which has been recently refurbished, was named ‘Hotel of the Week’ in The Evening Standard, and hosts a different event most nights including live music, cabaret, swing dancing and stand-up comedy shows.
Events manager at the Bedford, Becky Stevenson, said: “You can expect the same great quality as always, lots of laughs, good food and a few drinks with friends.
“Add to that the knowledge that you’re doing something to help other women in the world to get a free, safe, quality education.”
The Bedford reopened at the beginning of December after a multi-million pound refurbishment and the comedy special will take place in the iconic club room which has previously played host to female musicians including Ellie Goulding and Jorja Smith.
This year Three Cheers Pub Co, who own the Bedford and eight other London pubs including The Avalon in Clapham, will donate 50p from every food bill across all their pubs on International Women’s Day to the Malala Fund.
The Bedford has an extra special reason to celebrate the day, with their all-female leadership team in their general manager, assistant manager, hotel manager and events manager.
Tickets are £14 (£2 from each will go towards the charity) and can be bought on the door. Doors open from 7pm with show starting at 9pm. All are welcome to arrive early and enjoy drinks and nibbles beforehand and stay late afterwards to party until 2am.
