GARY CAHILL’S move to Chelsea has been the worst kept secret of the transfer window.

A deal has been agreed, the club’s are settled but the one thing they can’t agree on are the terms of his contract. I think it’s extraordinary he’s having wage troubles with Chelsea.

I don’t see the downside for somebody who’s 26 or 27 to come down from Bolton and play for a Champions League side on close to £100k a week.

The Blues might not want to pay the type of money they were six or seven years ago, but they’re right not to.

If he does move, I think he’ll fit well with John Terry but David Luiz will have something to say about that. It might not be so cut and dry that Cahill will partner Terry straight away.

Up the road at Queens Park Rangers, Joey Barton has had plenty to say for himself this week, but I never mind players getting involved.

It’s easy for people to sit on the sidelines and say players shouldn’t do this or that. It’s much more difficult when you’re in the heat of battle because it’s a passionate sport and people want to win.

The QPR captain got fouled twice within about a minute before his red card and in fairness to him I didn’t see him do an awful lot wrong. I know the ban has been upheld but I don’t think the officials did him any favours on the day.

I really do think that because of his reputation, Joey gets treated differently. If you look at Frank Lampard at Wolves, his reputation maybe helped him because it was certainly a tackle that could have got him sent off.

Speaking of red cards, I have no sympathy for Arsenal’s Johan Djourou after he was booked twice against Fulham. He brought it on himself and nobody could argue with the decision, apart from Arsene Wenger.

I think Fulham were excellent in the second half and they really tested the Gunners.

Arsenal were dominant in the first and were unlucky not to get a penalty, which could have made the difference because a two goal lead might have been too much for Fulham.

But the red card made it difficult for them in the last quarter and full marks to Fulham – they didn’t just want to take a point.

That’s the difference between teams these days. Now they believe that the top sides aren’t as strong as they were and they can have a go at them at times.

Fulham have a lot of good players and if they show the same determination and bravery as they did in taking the game to Arsenal, then they should do well.
