Symons sets his sights on Fulham reaching the play-offs after Huddersfield win

Fulham 3 Huddersfield 1

Kit Symons is looking towards the Championship play-offs after Fulham beat Huddersfield in an action-packed game at Craven Cottage.

Hugo Rodallega opened the scoring on 20 minutes after Huddersfield had missed a number of good chances.

However, sustained pressure resulted in an equaliser for the away side, Joel Lynch heading in for the Terriers in the second half.

Impressive goals Lasse Vigen Christensen and Ross McCormack sealed the victory for Fulham though, extending the Cottagers’ unbeaten league run to six.

Symons said: “The top six is possible. It’s a big ask from where we have come from but my aim is to improve every week.

“The league is wide open. For us to get up there we need to go on a good run which is a monumental task.”

Huddersfield started livelier, Mark Hudson’s header cleared off the line by Elsad Zverotic before Harry Bunn shot just wide after a good run found him one on one with goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

Just three minutes after Bunn’s miss, Rodallega made the away side rue their wasted chances, hitting home from the edge of the box for his sixth Championship goal of the season.

George Williams nearly made it two when his delicate chip hit the side netting after some stunning fast-paced passing from the Cottagers.

Rodallega then wasted another golden opportunity just before the break as he skied a header over from the edge of the six-yard box.

The away side started the second half stronger, Jacob Butterfield hitting the side netting from a free kick.

An equaliser seemed only a matter of time as Grant Holt headed narrowly over moments after Bunn was denied on the line by Kostas Stafylidis.

The away side were finally rewarded for their efforts as Lynch converted yet another dangerous free kick from Paul Dixon in the 75th minute.

But Fulham had the lead once again two minutes later, Christensen keeping his composure in the box and nutmegging Hudson before chipping into the net.

McCormack then sealed victory with a thunderous strike into the corner with seven minutes left.

The victory moves Fulham up to 17th, only a point and a place behind Huddersfield going into the two-week international break.
