CHRIS Adcock believes he and mixed doubles partner Gabby White have nothing to lose as they prepare to meet the world no.1 pair at the Yonex All-England Open Badminton Championships.

Adcock and White eased into the main draw after a successful day of qualifying at Birmingham’s NIA, seeing off Germany’s Max Schwenger and Carla Nelte 21-10, 21-14 and the dangerous Russians Vladimir Ivanov and Valeria Sorokina 21-8, 21-17.

But they are sure to face a tougher challenge next when they meet top seeds Chen Xu and Jin Ma from China, something Nottingham’s Adcock is relishing.

“We are very happy,” said the London 2012 Olympian. “We went into qualifying due to our relatively new partnership so we need to build our ranking.

“We knew when we drew the Russians it was going to be tough so I am really happy we took them down in two.

“For the first set-and-a-half I think it was one of the best we have played and we dispatched them pretty swiftly in the end.

“We have been in good form recently. We have the world no.1 pair next and I am really excited with the challenge. If we can cause a surprise, perfect, but the pressure is off now and we can enjoy ourselves.”
