Non-League round up: Controversial late penalty sees Sutton United lose as winless run goes on

Paul Doswell was left frustrated by refereeing decisions after a 94th minute Hemel Hempstead penalty saw Sutton lose 2-1.

Doswell bemoaned two decisions that ultimately swung the game in Hemel’s favour in the Conference South clash

He said: “We should have had a penalty through Billy Medlock, and there never should have been a penalty given to them in the last minute.

“I’ve told the referee he got it wrong because he’s made two massive calls and They’ve both gone against us and its led to a defeat at home.”

Sutton led after 25 minutes when Billy Medlock turned neatly in the area and clipped a dangerous cross into the six-yard box for Craig Dundas to head home.

“I’m not that disappointed in terms of performance, but we needed a result.” – Paul Doswell

However, The U’s were ahead for just five minutes after Hemel Hempstead captain Jordan Parkes curled a free kick into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Sutton started the second half brightly and but for a brilliant reaction save from Hemel’s Laurie Walker would have gone ahead.

Referee John Busby controversially denied Sutton a penalty, which would have resulted in a red card after Medlock was dragged down when through on goal.

In the 94th minute Hemel were awarded a penalty when Moussa Diarra went down under the challenge of Harry Osbourne.

And Parkes stepped up to score his second and secure a victory for Hemel that sees Sutton drop to 16th  in the league.

Despite the result Doswell spoke positively of his side’s display, adding: “I’m not that disappointed in terms of performance, but we needed a result.”
