Molesy Boat Club members Moe Sbihi and George Nash are two south west London Team GB athletes going for gold as week one of Rio 2016 comes to an end.
The gold-medal favourites will compete in the rowing men’s four final at 3.24pm, along with crew-mates Alex Gregory and Constantine Louloudis.
Teddington resident Jo Pavey and St Mary’s graduate Beth Potter will go head-to-head in the women’s 10,000m final at 3.10pm
The first day of the athletics will also see Croydon Harriers member Martyn Rooney taking to the track in the men’s 400m heat four at 1.30am on Saturday morning.
The reigning European Champion will be competing in his third Olympics —having raced in both Beijing and London.
St Mary’s alumnus Elliot Giles will be making his Olympic debut at 2.37pm in the men’s 800m heat four today.
Justin Rose will participate in round two of the golf, teeing off at 1.03pm.
The Putney-resident got off to a rosy start yesterday after making Olympic golf history with a hole-in-one and will be hoping to replicate his success today.
Epsom’s Chris Langridge and partner Marcus Ellis go up against South Korea the badminton men’s doubles at 3.20pm.
Wandsworth’s-own Bryony Shaw will take to the water for her final bout of three races and needs to secure an overall top ten finish in order to qualify for the final medal race.
With strong chances of medal contention Shaw’s RS:X Windsurfing women races 10, 11 and 12 will each start one hour a part, at 5.05pm, 6.05pm and 7.05pm.
Wimbledon hockey members Michael Hoare, Ian Sloan and Henry Weir form part of Team GB’s men hockey will play Spain in a cruial match, starting at 9pm.
The British team must secure a win in order to keep their chances of qualifying to the quarter finals alive.
