Match Report: AFC Wimbledon 2 Peterborough United 2

AFC Wimbledon remain in the relegation zone despite a hard-fought draw against play-off chasing Peterborough United at Kingsmeadow.

Lyle Taylor gave the hosts the lead after just 36 seconds, but Danny Lloyd-McGoldrick and Marcus Maddison turned the game around, only for Cody McDonald’s first Dons goals to ensure the poijnts were shared.

The visitors move up to 21st, but remain a point from safety, while the Posh are now a point from the play-off places and sit eighth.

Wimbledon made the perfect start when Taylor lashed home from the edge of the box after less than a minute.

But the hosts showed spirit to bounce back from the early set back, and had their equaliser when Lloyd-McGoldrick beat Dons captain Barry Fuller to a header on the edge of the box and saw the ball loop in off the far post.

Influential mdifielder Maddison was starting to control proceedings, and after luring Tom Soares into a foul in the area, he brushed himself down to give his side the lead.

However, Wimbledon restored parity shortly before half-time, when summer signing McDonald raced clear to chip keeper Jonathan Bond and register his first league goal for the club.

Dons keeper George Long kept out both Jack Marriott and Maddison to ensure his side emerged with a point that could prove valuable in boosting the Dons’ survival chances.
