Mark Dixie handed two life sentences for attacks on women

Sally Anne Bowman’s murderer Mark Dixie was today sentenced to two life sentences for attacks on women in 1987 and 2002.

One of the sentences was for rape, and the other for grievous bodily harm with intent.

The two sentences are for a minimum of 28 years, and mean he will not be able to apply for parole until 2044.

He previously claimed that he had not murdered the model Ms Bower in 2005, saying he had sex with her after coming across her already dead.

Senior investigator Chris Le Pere said: “I hope today’s sentences will bring a small measure of closure to these two women.

“Dixie is a hugely dangerous sexual predator, who I believe has carried out attacks on other women.”

Dixie raped the first victim in her car in Croydon before setting fire to the vehicle while she was tied up in it.  She managed to escape and seek help.

He hit the second victim over the head with a knife sharpener, fracturing her skull, and sexually assaulted her before a man interrupted when he heard her screams.

In a victim impairment statement, the woman said: “It is difficult to assess, over the years, how this incident has affected me.

“I was determined that it would not stop me from living my life.”

Believing Dixie has attacked others in the past, Mr Le Pere has appealed to the public to come forward if they have been violated by him before.

He said: “I would ask people to take a look at Dixie’s photograph and speak to police or Crimestoppers if they think they were a victim of his.”
