From blueberry facials to private limousines, a trend for pet pampering is on the rise.
South London pet spas and grooming centres for dogs, cats and even tortoises have been quick to cater to the city’s most extravagant pets.
Pet Pavillion in Wimbledon and The Pet Spa in Chelsea are among a growing number of businesses cashing in on the public’s demand for luxury pooch treatments.
Ria Winstanley, manager of The Pet Spa, explained why a 15 minute blueberry and vanilla facial for dogs costing £19.95 is their most popular treatment.
“Some people when they first hear about it find it quite funny but it actually does have benefits for the dogs,” she said.
“It contains antioxidants and is also a kind and natural tear stain treatment which helps to clean the area around the dogs’ eyes.”
Other ways to coddle your Chihuahua in Kensington include lavish bubble baths, relaxing pedicures and therapeutic head massages.
More cultured canines can be put through their paces with a trot on the treadmill – while watching classic pooches of the silver screen such as Beethoven or Turner and Hooch.
Family run business Pet Pavillion is favoured by the jet-set for its chauffeur service that ferries precious pugs to and from airports to meet their doting owners.
Novak Djokovic’s toy poodle is a regular at its Wimbledon branch during the tennis season.
Normally an air-conditioned Mercedes, the pups are welcomed to the car with a bundle of treats, snacks and even champagne for the more sophisticated hound.
They have also teamed up with Chelsea’s Blue Bird restaurant to create bites, bones and brunch so pets never have to leave their owner’s side.
Alex, store manager of Pet Pavillion’s Wimbledon branch said: “The strangest requests we’ve had has been to design special dog costumes for weddings.
“One couple even had their pet dog as the ring bearer.”
