British export and newlywed Eddie Redmayne scooped the Best Actor accolade at the Golden Globes last night.
The star-studded bash in Beverly Hills was the first big award ceremony of the year with the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the BAFTAs before the Oscars on February 22.
Many celebrities showed their solidarity with France in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attack including Hammersmith-born Dame Helen Mirren who displayed the phrase Je suis Charlie on a banner and pinned a pen to her dress.
Redmayne has received a lot of praise for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in the British biopic The Theory of Everything.
This praise has now been turned into a prestigious accolade at the 72nd Golden Globes where he walked away with the coveted award for a drama.
During his acceptance speech he explained how he had to cut his honeymoon short to come to LA but went on to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for giving him ‘a night to remember’ at the end of his honeymoon.

He also described the experience of playing Professor Hawking as a huge privilege and one of the great honours of his life.
Redmayne was the favourite to win and took the award ahead of Hammersmith’s Benedict Cumberbatch who played World War II Enigma code breaker Alan Turing in The Imitation Game.
Cumberbatch joined a host of other London stars nominated including Rosamund Pike, Keira Knightley and Emily Blunt but it was just Redmayne who received a Golden Globe.
He will now be hoping to emulate this success at the BAFTAs next month.
