Kit Symons gets Cottagers job after change of Fulham’s fortunes

Kit Symons has been announced as the new manager of Fulham FC today.

Symons was on a three man shortlist for the role and was picked ahead of Steve Clarke and Chris Hughton.

In a statement released by the club and emailed to the fan base the club confirmed that Shahid Khan has decided that Symons was the man to take Fulham forward.

“We’ve been a different football club, on and off the pitch, since Kit stepped in as our Caretaker Manager in September.

His passion for Fulham is evident and contagious, and I believe the promise ahead of him is extremely bright.

Above all, Kit understands and is committed to our goals, and he knows there is much work ahead. Starting today, we can begin work with Kit firmly in charge at Fulham,” said Khan

Symons, 43, was previously caretaker manager but after five wins in nine games, Shahid Khan has taken the decision to give him the role on a permanent basis.

This is Symons’s first permanent managerial role after caretaker spells at Colchester, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

Symons was backed by supporters, former Watford manager Billy McKinlay and players such as Dan Burn to take over as manager of the struggling Championship club.

The former player has been a coach at the club since 2009, undertaking a variety of roles including senior scout, having previously played at Craven Cottage from 1998 to 2001.

He takes over with Fulham just outside the Championship relegation zone after a disastrous seven months under Felix Magath.

Symons is Fulham’s fourth manager in a year and he will be hoping to add some stability to the club.

With the likes of Patrick Roberts,  Ross McCormack and Scott Parker in the team Symons has a talented group of players to work with to get the Cottagers out of trouble.

The Welsh manager will have a contract until 2016.
