Kingston primary school pupils excited after reaching Wembley cup final

A primary school football team representing Brentford will grace the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium after reaching the final of the npower Football League Kids Cup.

Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School’s U11 side will take on Chetwynd Junior School, representing Coventry, in the build-up to the League One play-off final on May 19.

The school, based in New Malden, have already claimed silverware in impressive surroundings by winning the Premier League Schools Tournament at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium last year.

And the talented group will hope to retain their Premier League title at Anfield, the home of Liverpool, in this year’s tournament.

Headteacher Vanessa Vaughan said: “They are really excited about it, over the moon.

“They have been playing together for a couple of years and their coach is really good, works hard with them and ensures they do their best.”

After beating other schools representing League One clubs in Crawley on March 21, the youngsters will also benefit from a coaching session with legendary ex-England defender Gareth Southgate at the play-off final.
